Mr. Virgil "Lawrence" Gill, known affectionately as Lawrence by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on the 22nd of October, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on January 14th, 1931, Lawrence's life was marked by his adventurous spirit, his creative mind, and his wonderful sense of humor.
Lawrence's journey began in a world far different from today's, but his adaptability and zest for life never waned. He was a devoted family man, treasuring the moments he shared with his loved ones. The legacy of love he leaves behind is cherished by his family: his devoted wife, Judy Hamlet Gill; his sons, Randy Lynn Gill and his wife Barbara of Alexander City, AL, Steve Gill of Montgomery, AL, and Michael Allen Gill with his wife Karen of Alpine, AL. Lawrence's memory will be forever held in the hearts of his eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, as well as his two great-great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy in his later years.
His life was one of dedication and service, as evidenced by his long career at Russell Corp. where he not only contributed his skills but also formed lasting friendships and associations. Even after retirement, Lawrence never lost his passion for being actively engaged in life's many pursuits.
An outdoorsman at heart, Lawrence found solace and excitement in hunting and fishing. He had an innate ability to fix anything, a trait that made him the family's go-to mechanic. His hands were rarely still, as he loved woodworking and creating things of beauty and purpose. Lawrence's adventurous soul led him to embark on many journeys, always seeking new experiences and learning from every adventure.
Those who knew Lawrence will remember him for his quick wit and his ability to bring laughter to any room. His creative approach to life's challenges was an inspiration to many, and his stories will be told for generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clestine Denham Gill, who shared many of life's adventures with him until her passing. Lawrence was also greeted in the beyond by his parents, Luther Howard Gill and Gracie Ladora Gill, and his son, Barry W. Gill, whose memories and influence remain a guiding light for the family.
Mr. Virgil "Lawrence" Gill's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and the pursuit of happiness. His impact on the world was as profound as the footprints he left in the woods he loved to roam. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit of adventure and his legacy of love will continue to guide and inspire all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Lawrence's life will be celebrated in a manner that honors the joy and warmth he brought into this world. His family will gather to share stories, to reminisce, and to honor a life well-lived. The echo of his laughter and the wisdom of his words will resonate with all who were touched by his presence.

May we all aspire to live with the same courage, the same passion, and the same unwavering love that he demonstrated every day. Lawrence's journey on earth has ended, but his story will continue to be written in the hearts of those he loved and by those who loved him.
