In the afternoon hours of September 26, 2023, our beloved matriarch, Shirley Ann Peters, was called to the Lord's heavenly home. Born on the 6th of January, 1938, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, Shirley was a beacon of love, faith, and selflessness to all who had the privilege to know her.
Raised by her parents, Pete Baker and Daisy Mask Jones, Shirley was a pillar of strength and resilience. Her life was not without its trials, notably the loss of her husband, Jessie Jerrell Peters, Sr., and their sons, Jessie Jerrell Peters, Jr., and Niki Baker Peters. Yet, Shirley faced these trials with a faith-filled heart, never wavering in her belief that the Lord was with her, guiding her through the most challenging times.
Shirley was a hard-working woman, dedicating over 35 years of her life to Russell Corporation, where she retired as a folder. Her industrious spirit didn't retire, though. She continued to serve her community through the American Red Cross and the Alexander City Senior Nutrition Center, always putting others before herself. Her selfless nature was a testament to her deep-rooted faith and love for her fellow man.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was a faithful member of LifePoint Church of God of Prophecy. Shirley had a voice that could shake the rafters, and she loved nothing more than to lift it in praise during gospel singings. Her love for the Lord was as deep and vast as the southern sky, and it shone through in every aspect of her life.
Shirley was a woman who loved her family with all her heart. She is survived by her daughter, Donna McClellan (Steve); son, Darren Peters (Machelle); daughters-in-law, Vickie Peters and Amy Peters; sisters, Ella Jean Peters and Betty Baker; grandchildren, Bradley McClellan (Christal), Brent McClellan (Stormy), Josh Peters (Allison), Justin Peters, Justin Peters (Keshia), Taylor Peters (Ryan Jones), Dexter Peters (Katelyn), Jessie Peters, Maggie Peters and Harlin Peters; and great-grandchildren, Tyson McClellan, Stacy Tenold (Hayden), Mallory Peters, Kaylen Peters, Madilyn Peters, Ashlyn Peters, Max Peters, Grayson Peters, Mason Jones and Anna Claire McClellan. Each of them carries a piece of Shirley's loving spirit within them, a legacy that will continue to flourish for generations to come.
Known for her culinary skills, Shirley was an amazing cook who was famous for her fried pies. She took great joy in nourishing her family, both physically and spiritually. Her home was always filled with the mouthwatering aroma of home-cooked meals and the comforting presence of her unwavering love.
As we say our earthly goodbyes to Shirley Ann Peters, let us remember her not with sorrow, but with joy. Let us remember her voice, raised in song, her hands, always ready to help, and her heart, always full of love. Let us celebrate her life, lived in faithful service to the Lord, and find comfort in the knowledge that she has gone home to her eternal reward.
In the words of the good book, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Shirley Ann Peters, you were indeed a good and faithful servant, and your memory will forever be a blessing to us all. Amen.
Radney Funeral Home is honored to serve the Peters family.
