Funeral Service for Mrs. Shirley S. Haynes, 87, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 3:00 pm at the Faith Temple. Pastor Dick Stark will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Faith Temple.
Shirley S. Haynes, a beacon of love and faith in the Alexander City community, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind a legacy of selflessness and devotion that touched the hearts of all who knew her. Shirley's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and family.
Born to Otis Davis Shivers and Eva Alberta Shivers, Shirley was the cherished sister to four brothers and three sisters, all of whom preceded her in death. Her journey through life was one marked by dedication to her family and an unwavering commitment to her faith. Shirley married the love of her life, John Junior Haynes, and together they built a life filled with joy and the blessings of a large and loving family. Their union was a remarkable journey of 71 years, rooted in mutual respect, affection, and an abiding love.
Shirley's life was enriched by her beloved children, Kathy H. (Frank) Carpenter, Steve (Julie) Haynes, and Christy (Keith) Lashley, all of whom she raised with love and a nurturing spirit in Alexander City, AL. Her role as a grandmother was one, she cherished deeply, sharing her warmth and wisdom with her grandchildren, Kelli (Alan) Meadows, Tripp (Ansley) Carpenter, Geoffrey (Jenna) Haynes, Jennifer (Chase) Clanton, Jake (Ashley) Lashley, Jesse (Jennifer) Lashley, and Tori (Zeke) Rearden. Shirley was also a proud great-grandmother to Rette (Savannah) Meadows, Al Meadows, Eli Meadows, Braxton Carpenter, Emmie Carpenter, Mary Charis Haynes, Ariana Haynes, Lily Clanton, Harper Lashley, Wyatt Lashley, Mary Winston Lashley, Colt Lashley, Lexi Kate Lashley, Lydia Rearden, Hank Rearden, and Royce Rearden. Each of these precious lives was nurtured by her unconditional love and support.
Shirley's dedication to her family was matched only by her devotion to her faith. A servant in the House of the Lord, she was a revered 63-year member of Faith Temple. Her life exemplified the virtues of a faith-filled existence, and she was a source of strength and inspiration to her faith community. Her contributions to the church and its members were immeasurable and will be deeply missed.
Beyond her family and church, Shirley had a passion for life that was evident in her everyday activities. She found joy in cooking, an art she shared generously with her family and friends. Shirley was an avid baseball fan, and her enthusiasm for the game was infectious. She was also a steadfast supporter of her grandchildren, attending countless activities and cheering them on in all their endeavors.
Shirley Haynes was the embodiment of love in action. Her selfless nature was evident to all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her loving presence will be profoundly missed.
