Rose Benton, a beacon of love and wisdom, passed away surrounded by the warmth of her family, leaving behind a legacy of education, music, and unwavering spirit. She was a cherished member of her community and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Born into the loving arms of Denver Thaxton Hayes and Gladys Hodge Hayes, Rose developed a passion for music and learning that would define her life's work. Her educational journey culminated in a bachelor's degree in music from Judson College and a bachelor's degree in education from Auburn University at Montgomery. These accomplishments set the stage for a remarkable career that would touch the lives of countless students.
Rose dedicated over 30 years to educating young minds in the Coosa County and Alexander City school systems. Her commitment to education was not just a profession but a calling, as she nurtured the potential of every child who entered her classroom. Beyond the school walls, she was actively involved in various educational associations, advocating for the importance of lifelong learning and the arts.
Her love for her family shone brightly, especially in her role as a mother and grandmother. Rose is survived by her loving son, Brent Hayes Benton, and his wife, Leigh Ellen, of Alexander City, AL. Her grandchildren, Kennedy Elizabeth Benton, and Denver Curtis Benton were the apples of her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her adoration for her grandchildren was matched only by her love of the outdoors, where she found peace and rejuvenation.
Rose's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and wisdom. Her spirited nature was contagious, and she left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her father, Denver Thaxton Hayes, her mother, Gladys Hodge Hayes, and her beloved husband, James Curtis Benton. The love they shared continues to resonate in the memories of those who were part of Rose's journey.
The world has lost a truly loving and spirited soul, a wise guide who led by example and with grace. Rose Benton's melody will continue to resonate in the hearts of her loved ones and the community she so faithfully served. Her legacy is one of joy, learning, and the boundless love she gave to her family and students. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
The family requests no flowers or food contributions but will accept memorial contributions to the Kellyton Volunteer Fire Department, 377 Firehouse Road, Kellyton, AL, 35089.
