Lonnie Douglas Simpson, Jr. passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Russell Medical Center. He was born on Monday, February 16, 1959 in LaGrange, Georgia to Lonnie Douglas Simpson, Sr. and Annie Ruth Clark Simpson. He married the love of his life, Margie Anne Pike Simpson, and proved that life's perfect partners will always find their way to each other. Lonnie was a faithful member of The Church of God. One of many jobs that he worked was for Jackson's Drugs, often delivering medication to those who weren't able to leave home.
Lonnie was known as a "jack of all trades" with an unwavering devotion to his family, friends, and community. One would consider him the epitome of a good ole southern man-loving, resilient, funny, wholesome and headstrong with just a dash of stubbornness. Lonnie believed in working hard, often working 2-3 jobs at a time, and helping others because it was the right thing to do. He never met a stranger, would always try to make you laugh, and would give you the shirt off his back in a heartbeat. Lonnie, affectionately known as "Honey," was a great daddy to those who needed one, a protective grandfather who thought the world of his grandchildren, and the kind of loyal friend everyone should have in their corner. No matter the situation, Lonnie stepped up for those who needed someone. He was the light in everyone's life, and even though the world seems dimmer without him, being loved by him means you will never truly be left in the dark. A good man like "Honey" will forever light the way for all who loved him.
Lonnie is survived by his daughters, Felisha Burdette; Kelsi (Kimberly Casey) Simpson, Beth (Scotty) Moore, Rhonda (Jeff) Ford, Bethany Benson; grandchildren, Payge Burdette, Elijiah Burdette, Addilyn Simpson, Remington Simpson, Rhett Dickinson; great-grandchild, Athena Burdette; brothers, Johnny Simpson, David Simpson; sisters, Martha (Tommy) Pike, Angela Fay Stidham; mother-in-law, Robbie Jean Griffin; sister-in-law, Brenda (Dan) Davis; brothers-in-law, Danny Joe (Julie) Pike, Charles (Pat) Pike, James (Brenda) Pike, Gary Peppers, and several nieces, nephews, and friends considered family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Anne Simpson; parents, Lonnie Douglas Simpson, Sr. and Annie Ruth Simpson; brother, Roy Lee Kenny; sisters, Brenda Germany, Nettie Ruth Peppers; sister-in-law, Linda Peppers.
A livestream of the service will be available to view on Lonnie's tribute wall. (10-15 minutes prior to the service start time.)
