Mrs. Katherine Jane Todd Horton's Obituary
Katherine Jane Todd Horton, age 90, a resident of Alexander City, passed away on August 21, 2023. She was born in Mobile, Alabama on October 2, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband, Greer Mack Horton, Jr.; her parents, Herman Dawson and Maida Todd; and her sister, Carroll Todd Bullock. Jane is survived by her sister, Mary Todd Bartlett (Bert). She is survived by her three children, Carroll Horton Magro (David) of Birmingham; Greer Mack Horton, III (Judy) of Birmingham; and Herman Todd Horton (Zoe) of Birmingham. She is survived by six grandchildren: William Burr Weatherly, Jr. (Mallory), Greer Mack Horton IV; Katherine Weatherly Alverson (Frank); Dawson Forbus Horton (Liza Lee); Anna Elizabeth Horton; and Grace Todd Horton. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, William Burr Weatherly III, Mary Lane Weatherly, Hayes Borden Alverson, and many nieces and nephews. Jane and Mack met at the University of Alabama and were happily married for 54 years.They shared a love of God, friends, the First Baptist Church, golf, traveling, and Alabama Football. Jane attended Lincoff School, Old Shell Road School, Murphy High School, Mary Baldwin, and the University of Alabama. She loved family time at Lake Martin, Gulf Shores, Dauphin Island, tap-dancing with Miss Marie and friends, painting, bridge, and playing her banjo ukulele with her sisters, Carroll and Mary. She was named Woman of the Year by Beta Sigma Phi in Alex City, was on the first Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels and the first Board of Directors for the Alex City Arts Council, and started the Flowers Ministry at church. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Delta Delta Delta sorority at the University of Alabama (Social Chairman), and the Women’s Golf Association at Willow Point. Singing in the FBC choir was her happy place. She loved her Joy Sunday School Class and Women’s Missionary Union. Jane was also an extremely talented artist and an extraordinary cook. Gerald Spraggins was her next-door neighbor and dear friend. Katherine Jane Todd Horton will live in our hearts forever. Visitation will be Friday, August 25, at Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City, AL, from 12:30-1:30. The funeral Service will be held at 2pm at the Chapel at Radney and the burial will follow at the Alexander City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts made in memory of Katherine Jane Todd Horton may be sent to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 400, Alexander City, AL 35011.
