Johnny Nolen's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. Johnny Nolen, 55, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 5:00 pm at the Savarese-Martin Football Stadium. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 2, 2023 from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Benjamin Russell High School Auditorium.
Johnny Nolen, affectionately known as "Coach Johnny," passed away surrounded by loved ones. A pillar of his community, he was known for his selfless, loving, and passionate nature. His love for family, sports, and his beloved dog, Twinkle Toes, defined his life, bringing joy to those around him.
Johnny was born to Wilma Gene Nolen and Virginia Ann Nolen in Alexander City, Alabama. He was the cherished brother of Tina Williams, Gregory Gene Nolen, Francis Scott Nolen, and the late Tammy Regina Nolen. He was a beloved uncle to Pamela Brooke Baker, Cynthia Marie Schultz, Kimberly Ieronimo, and a great-uncle to Kaitlyn Nolen, James Brown, Aaron Ieronimo, Kaleb Hatcher, and Khaloki Edwards. Johnny was also a loved nephew of Barbara Nolen, Evangline Rousso, and Willie Hayes, and brother-in-law to Pamela Harris.
Johnny spent his career coaching children of all ages and in all sports. His passion for coaching extended beyond the field as he also managed to bring a smile to children's faces while working in the school lunchroom. Known all over for his caring nature, he was a beacon of positivity and encouragement in the community. His dedication to nurturing and mentoring young athletes earned him the endearing title of "Coach Johnny."
Outside of coaching, Johnny was a devoted fan of the Benjamin Russell Wildcats, Atlanta Braves and Crimson Tide. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams, often while enjoying his favorite snack of hot dogs and Dr. Peppers. His love for sports was infectious, and he was known to inspire even the most casual observers with his enthusiasm and knowledge.
Johnny's love extended beyond people and sports to his cherished pet, Twinkle Toes. Their bond was a testament to his gentle and loving nature. Twinkle Toes was not just a pet but a companion who brought additional joy and companionship to Johnny's life.
In the face of loss, we remember Johnny's passion for life, his dedication to the children he coached, and his unwavering love for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched, in the community he served, and in the countless lives he enriched through his coaching and mentorship.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Wilma Gene Nolen, and sister, Tammy Regina Nolen. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Ann Nolen; siblings, Tina Williams, Gregory Gene Nolen, Francis Scott Nolen (Tammy Kay); nieces, Pamela Brooke Baker, Cynthia Marie Schultz, Kimberly Ieronimo (Joshua Moore); great-nieces and nephews, Kaitlyn Nolen, James Brown, Aaron Ieronimo, Kaleb Hatcher, Khaloki Edwards; aunts, Barbara Nolen, Evangline Rousso; uncle, Willie Hayes; and sister-in-law, Pamela Harris.
In remembering Johnny, we celebrate a life lived with love, passion, and selflessness. His spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will forever be a part of the community he loved. Rest in peace, Coach Johnny Wildcat. Your love and dedication will be missed, but never forgotten. WILDCAT PRIDE!!!In honor of Johnny's memory the family has requested that student's and youth wear their uniforms. Also, any others attending wear their BRHS Wildcats shirts.
