Funeral Service for Mr. Herbert L. Fuller, Jr., 87, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 11:30 am at the Orr Street Baptist Church. Rev. Turk Holt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Orr Street Baptist Church.
Herbert L. Fuller, Jr., known affectionately as Herbert to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on the 8th of July, 2024, in Alexander City, AL. Born on October 3, 1936, in the Elder Community, Herbert lived a full and inspiring life marked by dedication to his family, his faith, and his community.
Herbert was the beloved husband of 67 years to Shirley Jean Blair Fuller, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their daughters, Terri and Doug Brennan of Birmingham and Cindy and Scott Blake of Alexander City; and son, Greg and Mary Kate Fuller of Rome, GA. Herbert was a pillar of strength and love for his grandchildren, Travis and Megan Fuller, Adam and Celina Springer, Jared and Mindy Fuller, Tommy and Lauren Brennan, David Brennan, Elizabeth Brennan, Lynden and Chad Balyo, Michael Blake and fiancé, Emily Moore, Weston Blake, and Mary Blair Fuller. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Valley Fuller, Wade Fuller, Ava Springer and Lynnley Fuller. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn and Glenda Fuller. Herbert was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Allen Fuller; his parents, Herbert Lee Fuller, Sr. and Mattie Lee Fuller; and his siblings, Mamie Bryant, Dobbie Wallace, Willa Moore, Randy Fuller, and Carolyn Fuller.
A respected businessman, Herbert owned and operated H L Fuller Construction Company. As a commercial contractor, he contributed significantly to the infrastructure of the state, building many well-known buildings and leaving a lasting mark on the landscape. His work ethic, integrity, and leadership in his field were evident to all who worked with him.
Herbert's commitment to his faith was unwavering. A longtime and faithful member of Orr Street Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, drove the church van, and served on numerous committees. He found great joy in participating in mission trips, embodying the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need.
Traveling with his family was one of Herbert's greatest pleasures. He was the mastermind behind the family vacations, often surprising them with the destinations, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. His calm, patient nature and his great sense of humor were the foundations of many happy gatherings.
An avid outdoorsman, Herbert relished the times he spent fishing, whether by boat, on the pier, or deep sea. He was also a gifted grill master, known for his culinary skills and for hosting delightful fish fry's. His love for entertaining was matched by his generosity and hospitality.
Active in his community, Herbert was a longtime member of the Civitan Club and took pride in his role on the City Planning Commission. His wisdom and insight were invaluable assets to the groups he was part of.
A voracious reader and a history buff, Herbert's intelligence shone brightly in his conversations and the sound advice he often gave. He was a loving, generous, and faith-filled man who touched the lives of many.
Herbert's legacy is not only in the structures he built or the committees he served on but in the love he shared and the values he instilled in his family. His gentle spirit and kind-hearted nature will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Herbert L. Fuller, Jr. was a testament to what it means to live a life of purpose, love, and faith. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we also celebrate the enduring impact he has made on his family and community. Herbert's memory will forever be cherished, and his example followed by those who were fortunate enough to have been part of his journey.
