Mitch, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother. I did not know she was at the nursing home here in Opelika. I would have made Cathy take me to see her. I cannot work or drive myself anywhere now since I am disabled. I loved Ms. Gertrude since all our days on Daywell. I hope you are doing well otherwise. Know that she loved you very much!

So sorry to hear of our loss but rejoicing that she will be in the presence of our Lord and Savior. Mrs. Gertrude was a dear friend to my mother, Helen Cook. Mrs. Gertrude was also the mother of my dear friend and high school classmate Amber. My prayers and sympathy go out to the family.
I always loved the way Aunt Gert wrote in the margins of books as she read them. Reading a book behind her is like getting to talk with her as you read the story. And I love how she used to laugh at herself. Just always made everybody feel so happy. I will so miss sharing laughs with her.
Lots of fond memories of Gertrude while working with her at Russell Hospital. She truly was a gifted and talented writer and could "smoke" a typewriter with her flawless transcription. She loved her Lord, her children and grandchildren. My deepest sympathies for her family.
My memories of Aunt Gertrude were mostly from my childhood. My sister and brother would come to Alex City to spend a week with our grandparents and we always spent time at Aunt Geri’s house. She was really good at recruiting help to shell peas! She was beautiful and fun to be around. Betty Hand
