Don G. Holley's Obituary
Visitation for Don G. Holley, age 81 of Alexander City, will be held from 2pm to 4pm on Wednesday, February 14th, 2018 at Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City. Mr. Holley passed away Sunday, February 11th at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.
An Alexander City native born to Lucy and Troy Holley, Mr. Holley was a 1954 graduate of Benjamin Russell High School and a 1958 Textile Engineering graduate from Auburn University (then API). He spent his professional career with Avondale Mills, Russell Corporation, and Swift Spinning. An outdoor enthusiast, he is remembered by family and friends for his passion for skeet shooting, hunting, and the collection, restoration, and replica-crafting of 19th century rifles and shotguns. A varsity basketball player in high school, Mr. Holley also played softball, tennis, and golf throughout his life; and was an Eagle Scout. A proud father, he is remembered by his children as an outdoorsman and mentor who spent much time with them camping, canoeing, and hunting.
Mr. Holley is survived by his sister Nancy Nelson (Mark) of Birmingham, AL, daughter Jill Kieswetter (Mike) of Sterling, VA, son Ken Holley (Celeste) of Athens, GA, and son Dr. Paul Holley (Jacque) of Auburn, AL. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Devin Holley (Tabitha), Dr. Amanda Holley (Trey), Quinton Holley (Caitlyn), Holley Alexandria Krukowski (Nick), Michael Kieswetter, Yates Holley and Lee Chapman Parks, and three great grandchildren, Vivian Krukowski, Aidan Holley and Emma Kate Holley. He is pre-deceased by his wife of forty-four years, Peggy W. Holley (2001).
In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials are recommended for the Bethany House in Auburn, AL, as the family is most grateful for their tireless and compassionate service.
