David L. Florine passed away on the afternoon of February 24, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Edith Florine, and his aunt, Cora Slagle. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 45 years, Vicki Florine; his daughters, Nina Grant (Ryan) and Amy Courtney (Jameson); five grandchildren- James, John, Emmarie, Hollis, and Larsyn; his brother Ronnie Florine (Shelia) and their children, Jonathan Florine (Christi) and Brandi Hadaway (Michael), great niece Harlee Hadaway, and great nephew Camden Hadaway.
David worked for over 30 years in the foundry business and made many lifelong friends there. He was recognized by the American Foundry Society in 2019 and 2022 for his contributions to lost foam casting. He was an avid bass player and spent countless nights playing his well-worn Fender Precision in the band. He was a consummate performer who loved a crowd and had a knack for reciting song lyrics.
He fell in love with Lake Martin as a boy in the Wicker Point area and had a multitude of adventures on a red houseboat until he and Vicki moved full-time to Point Windy in 1990. It was home, and he loved sitting in the warm sun looking out toward the water. He spent many years driving his girls around the lake in a runabout, but the last decade has seen him more often in the captain's chair of a pontoon boat, usually with a little dog or a kid in his lap. He will live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who loved him.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be given to Bethlehem United Methodist Church at 230 Sofer Lane, C/O Gale Crim, Treasurer, Talladega, AL 35160.
