Wynette Scott Ray, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love and generosity, passed away surrounded by the warmth of her loving family. She was born on February 1, 1933, in Tallapoosa County to Robert McDonald Scott and Mary Ruth Champion Scott. She grew up in Tallapoosa County with her siblings, one of which was her twin.
She was in the first graduating class of Benjamin Russell High School in 1951, and it was a life marked by dedication, both to her work and to those she held dear. Wynette retired from Russell Corporation as an athletic claims administrator after an impressive 42 years of service, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment.
Wynette's faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a devout Christian, she found great joy and solace in her church family at First Presbyterian. Her voice was a familiar and beloved addition to the choir, and she was an active participant in the women's bible study. Wynette was known for her exceptional culinary skills, particularly her mouth-watering homemade jellies, with blackberry and strawberry being family favorites. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and delicious aromas, where she cooked wonderful meals and treats for her family and friends. Wynette also found joy in line dancing, and she often whiled away hours engaged in word search puzzles, reading and traveling with family and friends.
Wynette's love extended far beyond her immediate family. She is survived by her daughters, Robyn Elaine (Robert) Neighbors and Stacey Ray (Joe) Sorrell; her half-brothers, Jerry Scott and Donnie (Rhonda) Scott; and her cherished grandchildren, Brooke Neighbors (Brandon) Ballard, Melanie Neighbors (Brian) Fuller, Laurie Neighbors (Jason) Wilson, Cody (Shauna) Hayes, Michael (Shelby) Hayes, Dustin (Amber) Hayes, Whitney Sorrell (Zach) Crumpton, and Jackson (Heather) Sorrell.
