Mr. William "Bill" Clyde Patten's Obituary
William Clyde Patten, affectionately known as Bill, of Montgomery, Alabama, was called to
Heaven on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the age of 92.
Bill was born March 23, 1930, in Jackson’s Gap, Alabama, where he, his father, mother, and
three brothers were an integral part of the community and active members of Jackson’s Gap
Baptist Church.
Upon graduating from high school, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a member of a special
units operation in the Korean War. After serving his country, Bill attended Auburn University,
(War Eagle) and graduated from the University of Georgia, (Go Dawgs). He spent over seventy
years in the agri and animal sciences field. His love for the Sunbelt Expo in Georgia, where he
served on the board of directors and as president, was well-known throughout the country.
Most dear to Bill was spending time with his family and friends. He was an average golfer, an
avid Auburn and Georgia football fan, and loved hunting, fishing, and playing dominos at the
Hataway Ranch. Bill will be remembered for his bigger-than-life personality, bright smile,
and infectious laugh.
He and his brother, Jack, loved to tell a good joke. He has been described by many who knew
him as a charming, witty, smart, hard-working gentleman, mentor, and friend who was adored
by those who knew him best.
He will be remembered as a sweet and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-
law, and friend. His legacy will live on in the hearts of the people who were lucky enough to
have loved and been loved by him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Roy Patten and Irene Thomas Patten;
brothers, Thomas Patten, Harold Patten, and Jack Patten; his father-in-law and mother-in-law,
A.J. Price and Stella Price; sisters-in-law, Ada Jane Lindsey Werneke and Christine Patten; and
brother-in-law Billy Price.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Gloria Jean Price Patten of Montgomery,
Alabama; daughters, Sharon Hataway (David) of Ramer, Alabama, and Sheila Nichols (Vaughn)
of Gulf Breeze, Florida; two grandchildren, Jennifer Blount (Ron) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi,
and Ruben Vaughn Nichols III (Allie), of Birmingham, Alabama; one sister-in-law, Joyce Price, of
Hackneyville, Alabama; one brother-in-law, A. J. Price Jr., of Alexander City, Alabama; and
numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides associated with Kindred Hospice Care of
Montgomery for their loving care during Bill’s illness.
A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Radney
Funeral Home in Alexander City, Alabama, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. in the
