Wilfred Junior Bishop, known affectionately as Wilfred, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2023, in New Site, AL. Born in Tallapoosa County, AL, Wilfred touched the lives of many with his kindness, thoughtfulness, and gentle spirit.
Wilfred was a dedicated employee at Avondale Mills, where he worked as a weaver. His hard work and dedication were evident in all that he did. Despite his quiet nature, Wilfred's influence was profound, and he was highly respected by his colleagues.
Outside work, Wilfred was always busy keeping his yard immaculate, a testament to his diligence and love for nature. His joy for life was infectious, and his hobbies reflected his zest for living. He possessed a love for music, often expressing himself through singing and playing the guitar. His performances were heartfelt, and those who had the chance to hear him play were left captivated by his talent.
However, what Wilfred loved most was his family. His eyes would light up whenever he spoke about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Rita Prophitt Traylor (Greg), Roger Bishop (Lisa), Rhonda Hendrix, Richard Bishop (Sandy), and Rodney Bishop (Misty). His legacy will continue to live on through his grandchildren, Josh Bishop (Jana), Jason Bishop, Steven Hendrix, Eric Hendrix (Taylor), Jessica Cassiano (Eric), Justin Bishop (Dana), Jake Bishop (Eliza), Hunter Goodwin (Shea), Kelli Prophitt (Chase), Nathan Prophitt (Jessica), Cody Bishop (Jody), and Haden Monk (Dylan), as well as his seventeen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and sister, LaVerne Davis.
Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Nancy Bishop, his wife of 66 years, Edith White Bishop, sister, Nelda Sue Walker, brothers, Herman Bishop, Raymond Bishop, Ludene Bishop, JT Bishop, Richard Bishop, and Howard L. Bishop, and great granddaughter, Denah Bishop.
Wilfred's life was a testament to his character. He was kind, thoughtful, gentle, and always ready to lend a helping hand. He lived his life with quiet dignity, and his memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
As we mourn the loss of Wilfred, we also celebrate a life well-lived. His life was filled with love, laughter, and music. He taught us the value of hard work, the joy in simple pleasures, and the importance of family.
