Thomas V. Taunton, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2023, in Montgomery, AL. Born on April 15, 1936, in Alexander City, AL, Thomas lived a full and vibrant life, forever leaving his mark on the hearts of those he encountered.
Thomas was a proud graduate of Benjamin Russell High School, class of 1955. He carried the work ethic and dedication he learned in school into his professional life, building a successful career that spanned several industries. Thomas retired from Sigma Corp (Russell Pipe and Foundry) where he worked for the majority of his career. His colleagues remember him as a hardworking and committed team member, always ready with a clever joke or interesting story.
A man of many hobbies, Thomas was never one to sit idle. He relished the beauty of nature, often spending his free time fishing, boating, and hunting. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his love for his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. An avid water skier, Thomas cherished his time living on Lake Martin since 1966. His passion for classic cars was well-known, and he was often found with his friends restoring vintage cars. A handyman at heart, Thomas had a knack for carpentry and woodworking, and took great satisfaction in building things with his own hands.
Thomas is survived by his daughters, Alesia T. Dooley (Tim) of Montgomery, AL, and Tammy T. Perdew of Alexander City, AL. His legacy is also carried on by his grandchildren, Haley A. Perdew of Saks, AL, and Kelsey P. Sparks (Carter) of Pittsburgh, PA. He leaves behind his sister, Carol Wallace of Wetumpka, AL, and his brother, Robert Taunton (Marye Frances) of Opelika, AL, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Taunton and Inez Burkhalter Taunton; his brother, AJ Taunton; his sister, Exell Taunton Granger Orwin; and his beloved wife, Bobbie Bonner Taunton.
Described by many as handy, funny, and interesting, Thomas's unique combination of humor, curiosity, and skill made him a joy to be around. Whether he was telling a hilarious anecdote or sharing a fascinating fact, Thomas's presence was always a source of comfort and delight.
Thomas V. Taunton's life was a testament to the power of hard work, the joy of curiosity, and the importance of family. He will be deeply missed by all who know him, but his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the lessons learned, and the love he gave so freely.
