Ms. Susan Thomas Dawkins' Obituary
Susan “Stubby” Dawkins, 72, of Alexander City, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 5pm, surrounded by her loving family.
She was reunited in Heaven with her soulmate, Curtis “Cat Daddy” Dawkins, just eleven days after his passing. It brings comfort to imagine Curtis waiting at Heaven’s gate, dressed in his best suit and signature fedora, smiling as he took her hand and said, “You made it, sweetheart.”
Susan retired from Russell Athletic after 37 years of dedicated service, where she worked as a senior inspector. One of her favorite memories was tucking handwritten notes from her daughter into the uniform pockets of her favorite Major League Baseball players - small surprises she hoped would bring them encouragement and a smile.
She adored her granddogs, Lucy Bean and Gracie, who brought her joy and comfort throughout her health struggles, which began in 2013.
Susan found happiness in life’s simple pleasures - watching college softball, shopping with her daughter, relaxing on beach trips with family, and saying “Roll Tide” with pride. She loved everything about the University of Alabama, from the football to the traditions, and cheered them on with true devotion.
She also enjoyed playing card games, Yahtzee, Scrabble, and Guesstures. Family game nights were always memorable. An amazing cook, Susan’s signature dishes were family favorites that brought everyone together.
Susan had a generous heart and loved deeply. She was loyal, strong, and never afraid to speak her mind. She stood by the people she loved without hesitation. Steady and genuine, she was the kind of person you wanted in your corner.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Hugh Thomas Jr.; her mother, Mrs. Thelma Sue Thomas; and her brothers, Jerry (Cheryle), Randall, and Roger (Linda).
She is survived by her cherished daughter, Natasha Dawkins (Brooke), whose steadfast love and presence were her greatest comfort; her devoted brother, Calvin (Glenda); and her grandson, William Trout (Mary Kate), who brought her immense joy and pride.
Susan shared a lifelong friendship with Melinda Gambrell-Carr, her best friend and Natasha’s godmother - a bond marked by endless laughter, deep loyalty, and memories that spanned decades.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Brandi Pratt, Susan’s caregiver and treasured friend, whose compassion and unwavering support brought comfort and peace in her final days.
“Live with heart, love with pride, and always say Roll Tide!” - that was Susan. Bold, loving, and full of spirit, she leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered and a presence that will be deeply missed.
