Steve “Red” Junior Thomas, age 80, of Tallapoosa County, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Russell Medical.
He was born on March 15, 1946, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, to Marlin Monroe Thomas and Annie Lucille Cleveland Thomas. Red lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a quiet strength that touched all who knew him. He was a man who valued honesty, responsibility, and the simple blessings of everyday life, and he carried those values with him throughout his years.
Red retired from the City of Alexander City after more than 20 years of dedicated service. He took pride in his work and was respected for his dependable nature and steady presence. His long career reflected the same qualities that defined his life outside of work, including commitment, humility, and a willingness to help wherever he was needed. He was also known for his love of hunting, fishing, and farming, pursuits that brought him peace and connected him to the land and the traditions he cherished. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, and those moments were among the greatest joys of his life.
Those who knew Red will remember him as loving, selfless, and thoughtful. He had a kind heart and a generous spirit, and he made others feel valued through his words and actions. His family was the center of his world, and he found great happiness in watching it grow through the years. Whether sharing a conversation, offering guidance, or simply being present, he gave of himself in ways that left a lasting impression on those around him.
He is survived by his children, Tina Fuller and her husband, Joseph Mizzell, Lynn Thomas and his wife, Carolyn, Sherry Bishop, Vicky Breashears and her husband, Jerry, Marla Thomas and her husband, Nathan Golden, Steven Thomas, and Zack Thomas. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jenny Fuller, Adam Fuller, Bradley Thomas, Timothy Thomas, Jerry Breashears III, Audri Brown, Justin Bishop, Josh Bishop, Kaynean Thomas, Chantleigh Thomas, Paisley Thomas, CJ Thomas, Sawyer Golden, Kamri Thomas, and Karmen Thomas, along with seventeen great-grandchildren who brought him much joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlin Monroe Thomas and Annie Lucille Cleveland Thomas, and by his siblings, Robbie Griffith, Bo Thomas, Brother, AC Dukes, JC Dukes, Betty Williams, Nell Shurum, and Ruth Browning. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Red’s life was one of devotion, perseverance, and love. He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory and honor the example he set. His presence will be deeply missed, but the legacy of his kindness, his work ethic, and his love for those around him will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
