Mrs. Shirley J. Saffold's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Shirley J. Saffold, 84, of Alexander City, will be Friday, May 23, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the West End Baptist Church. Rev. Donald DeLee will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shirley, a cherished matriarch and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at the age of 84, in the loving care of the Bethany House in Auburn. Born on January 22, 1941, in Alexander City, to Willis and Pauline Anderson Williams, Shirley dedicated her life to her family, faith, and community.
Shirley's professional journey culminated in her retirement as a respected Supervisor at Russell Corp., where her strong work ethic and honest approach left a lasting impact. Her commitment extended beyond her career as she was actively involved in various church activities, reinforcing her reputation as a woman of profound faith and community spirit.
An avid traveler, Shirley soaked in the beauty of mountain vistas in Gatlinburg with her treasured friends, creating memories that would last a lifetime. She also made countless trips to the beaches of Virginia to spend time with her family. Known for her impeccable appearance, Shirley had a passion for shopping and always carried herself with grace and elegance, ready to go at a moment's notice.
Above all, faith and family were the cornerstones of Shirley's life. Her love and devotion knew no bounds, especially when it came to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly call her "Grandmother". She shared countless precious moments with not only them, but also her church family at West End Baptist Church, all of whom referred to her as "MawMaw Shirley.
Those who knew Shirley will remember her as a loving soul with a penchant for cooking and a slightly picky appetite, who touched lives through her kindness, her readiness to help, and her unwavering love for the Lord. Her legacy of love, generosity, and integrity will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Edwards of Opelika; son, Michael Yates of Opelika; grandchildren, Israel (Tammy) Morgan, Shane (Ashley) Morgan, Amber (Frank) Ash, Stephen (Christian) Edwards, and Haley (Trey) Davis; great-grandchildren, Jasmine (fiance - Trenton Clark) Morgan, Cain Morgan, Colton Morgan, Claire Ash, Carleigh Ash, and Elliot Ash; great-great-grandchild, Waylen Clark; sisters, Dean Patterson and Peggy (Braxton) Baker; brother, Bud (Kathy) Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elvin Saffold; daughter, Donna Bush; sister, June Powell; and brother, Billy Williams.
