Shirley Dean Brecheen's Obituary
Graveside Service for Ms. Shirley Dean Brecheen, 88, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Friday February 7, 2025, at 3 pm at the Hillside Cemetery in Liberty, TX. A short visitation will take place at the cemetery before the graveside service. Rev. Jose Flores will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City, AL.
Mrs. Shirley D. Brecheen, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on November 9, 1936, Shirley's life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness and thoughtfulness. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will forever be cherished.
Shirley's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, friends, community, and her church family. She was the loving matriarch of a large and vibrant family that includes her daughter, Judy (John) McGouyrk of Alexander City, AL; her sons, Darryl and David Brecheen; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Brecheen; and her special friend, Denise Dees. Shirley's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Billy (Trish) Hammers, Amiee Baker, Rebecca Baker, Joe (Tira) Havis, Timothy (Mindy) Havis, Miranda Havis, Josh (Carrie) Havis, Marcus Havis, Ashley Brecheen, Zach (Katherine) Brecheen, Taylor Hammers, Alanis Collins, Jennifer Andrews, Stephanie McGouyrk, John McGouyrk, Jesse Brecheen, and Mason Brecheen. Her great-grandchildren, numbering 34, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, will carry forward the lessons of love and generosity she instilled in them. Billy Hammers, Joe Havis, Tim Havis, Zach Brecheen, Jesse Brecheen, Josh Havis, and Jimmy Dees will serve as pallbearers.
Shirley was a guiding light and a source of boundless support to her family. She rejoiced in their accomplishments and provided comfort in times of need. Her home was a haven of warmth, where laughter and joy were abundant. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in particular, will remember her as a cornerstone of their lives, someone who taught them the value of family and the importance of caring for others.
Preceding Shirley in death were her beloved husband, Rev. Jesse N. Brecheen; her father, Charlie Myers; her mother, Adell Myers; her daughter, Debra Havis; her son, Joe Havis; her grandchild, Jennifer Hammers; her sister, Minnie Mulkie; and her brother, Johnny Myers. She is now reunited with them in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire those she touched.
Shirley's life was a living example of selflessness. She had an innate ability to anticipate the needs of others and to provide support without ever seeking recognition. Her kindness extended beyond her family to her community, where she was known for her volunteer work and her ability to bring people together. Shirley's thoughtful nature was evident in every aspect of her life, from the meals she prepared with love to the comforting words she always had at the ready.
As we say goodbye to Shirley, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of giving. Shirley's memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
