Funeral Service for Mrs. Sherry Ellison Simpson, 60, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church. Dr. Steve King will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park . The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Sherry Ellison-Simpson, a cherished pillar of the Alexander City community, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering dedication to her family, her career, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and wisdom.Born to Gloria Dark Ellison and the late Gary Ellison, Sherry grew up in a nurturing environment that fostered her passion for learning and helping others. After obtaining her Bachelor's degree in Psychology, she pursued a Master's in Criminal Justice, followed by a Master's in Early Childhood Education, a Master's in Library Media, an Education Specialist Degree (EDS), and a Doctorate in Education Administration. Her commitment to academic excellence paved the way for a career that was as diverse as it was impactful.Sherry's professional journey began as a juvenile probation officer, where she served for three years. Her compassion and desire to guide young lives towards a brighter future were evident in every interaction. She earned National Board Certification in Education, a testament to her expertise and dedication to the field. For over 30 years, Sherry devoted herself to the education profession, with her final years spent in self-contained special education, where she made a significant difference in the lives of children with special needs.Her passion for service extended beyond her career as she took on the role of a city council member for District 1. For four years, Sherry worked tirelessly to improve the lives of her constituents, bringing the same loving, gentle, and generous spirit to the council that she did to every aspect of her life.Sherry's interests were as varied as her educational pursuits. She loved spending time at the beach and in the mountains, finding peace and rejuvenation in nature's beauty. An avid learner, she enjoyed studying just as much as teaching. Her home was a reflection of her meticulous nature, always spotlessly kept. In her moments of leisure, she could be found indulging in her love for classic television mysteries, with "Columbo" and "Murder, She Wrote" among her favorites.Those who knew Sherry would describe her as the embodiment of love and generosity. Her gentle nature and immense capacity for kindness made her a beloved figure in her community and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.Sherry is survived by her loving husband, Scott Simpson of Alexander City, AL; her devoted mother, Gloria Dark Ellison; her adoring daughters, Seanna Ellison Simpson and Sabella-Grace Ellison Simpson; her dear friend, Patti Benton Walker; her caring Aunt, Luanne White; her cousins, Rusty White and Andy White (Jennifer); and her Aunt, Brenda Drummond (Brian). Her father, Gary Ellison, preceded her in death, and it is a comfort to know she is now reunited with him.In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Sherry's life was the epitome of this sentiment, as she dedicated herself to ensuring the well-being and success of others. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us.Sherry Ellison-Simpson's life was a testament to the power of education, the impact of love, and the importance of community. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of crossing paths with her.
