Larry Scott Railey passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024 after a long battle with his health. Born on August 16, 1968, in Ashland, Alabama, he was the son of Larry Wayne Railey and Linda Ann East Railey. Scott came into this world with a sense of humor and left with the same goal of trying to make others laugh. Whether it was testing your gullibility through telling tales of his adventures and injuries in the War (which he wasn't in) or poking fun of those he loved, Scott was always willing to go to great lengths to make you smile.
As well as a master at pranks, he was well known for his tender heart and compassionate soul. Throughout life's obstacles, he remained humble and kind. Scott was always worried about others and did his best to make sure they were okay. He was an ambitious dreamer, of sorts, who never hesitated to make grand plans for the future even though everyone knew he was terrible at finishing a project completely. Scott loved watching Alabama football and enjoyed a good fish fry. In his spare time, Scott looked for any reason to be outdoors whether it was mowing the grass, tending to the cows, or bailing hay. His place of peace, however, would always be in his garden.
Before retiring, Scott worked as a maintenance worker for the Tallapoosa Board of Education for 19 years. While working at one of the schools, it's there that he met the love of his life, Dana, and charmed her the way any southern woman would want to be charmed...by fixing the air conditioner unit for her classroom. They went on to create 18 years worth of memories and laughs, watching their children grow, and picking on each other the way best friends should. His ultimate wish (and prediction) was achieved with the birth of his first grandson, Coplen, whom he spoiled more than any other in the family. He was a loving husband, daddy, and friend to all. One guarantee is that no matter who you are, the memories of Scott are sure to be filled with laughter, maybe even an eye roll, but definitely a smile.
Scott is survived by his wife, Dana S. Railey; children, Stetson Kyle Railey, Steven Brady Railey, John Dylan (Breana Upchurch) Railey, Carly Morgan Railey; grandson, John Coplen Railey; father, Larry Wayne (Linda) Railey; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Linda Ann Railey; sister, Karen Lynn Railey; and grandparents, Talmadge & Bertha Railey, and Van & Frances East.
Radney Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Scott Railey.
