Sarah Ann Guthrie (November 10, 1934 - February 9, 2025) was born in Dadeville, AL to Grady Ernest Guthrie and Lorine Hamby Guthrie. She enjoyed her early childhood in Dadeville with the large Guthrie and Hamby families. As the only granddaughter and niece to Guthrie’s, she was doted on by the family as their little princess. Sarah Ann grew up in Alexander City and graduated from Benjamin Russell High School. She then entered the nursing program at Carraway Hospital in Birmingham, where she worked for 45 years after obtaining her Registered Nursing degree. While in nursing school, she served on the staff of the yearbook, The Carramet, as the Subscription Manager.
Sarah Ann was always a loving and compassionate Caregiver to anyone who called upon her, as evidenced by accolades from neighbors, friends, and family. After her retirement, she returned to her childhood home to care for her elderly mother, and later, her beloved Uncle, C.C. Hamby (Layfayette, AL). Sarah Ann remained in Alexander City for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Flint Hill Global Methodist Church.
She was preceded in passing by her parents and brother, J.H. Guthrie. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Hilda Guthrie; her nephew, Jay Guthrie (Gina); her nieces, Christol Guthrie, and Melissa Hill (Tim); great nephews Jay Guthrie II and Christopher Guthrie (Erin) and great-nieces Haley Goldberg (Jack) and Hannah Hill, as well as 7 great-great nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her special life-long friends, Minnie Blair, and Deloris Russaw.
