Mrs. Sara Faye Drake Adair Thorne's Obituary
Graveside service for Mrs. Sara Faye Drake Adair Thorne, 89, of Alexander City, will be Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Hillview Memorial Park. Rev. Josh Sammons will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Radney Funeral Home. \r\n\r\nMrs. Sara Faye Drake Adair Thorne passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on August 1, 1923 in Winters, Texas to Lelia Mae Hodnett Drake and Aldolphus Drake.\r\n\r\nShe is survived by her son, Bobby Adair and wife Janice; two grandsons, Jeff Adair, wife Jodi and John Adair, wife Robin; and four great-grandchildren, Connor, Camden, Ben, and Sam.\r\n\r\nSara was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ralph Drake; two sisters, Ruth and June Drake, and her husband, Fred Thorne.\r\n\r\nFollowing her graduation from Alexander City High School, Sara began working at Russell Corporation. She worked in the Purchasing and Cost Accounting Department for 47 years.\r\n\r\nSara enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to travel and took many historical trips throughout the states with her friends and family. Most of all, she loved her many trips she would take to Seagrove Beach, Florida. Sara always had a bag packed and ready to go whenever.\r\n\r\nBeta Sigma Phi Sorority also held a special place in her heart. The sorority had been a very important part of her life, and she had held almost every office in the group. She cherished her friends she made in the sorority during her membership of over 50 years.\r\n\r\nSara was at one time an avid painter. She took lessons for years and enjoyed painting for pleasure. The annual Library Art Show was one of Sara’s favorite events and it has benefited from her volunteered service for many years.\r\n\r\nDuring Sara’s retirement years, she was a member of the Circle of Love and Rejuvenate group at First Methodist. She enjoyed her walking exercise groups with her friends and shared many meals and memories with her friends there.\r\n\r\nThe family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Chapman Healthcare Center.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Children's Harbor, 1 Our Children's Highway, Alexander City, AL 35010.\r\n
