Sara Childs Lucas, affectionately known as Sara, danced gracefully into eternity on October 7, 2025, at the age of 84, in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on August 26, 1941, in New York City, NY, Sara's life was a vibrant dance of love, generosity, and faith.
Sara's passion for dance was evident in her lifelong commitment to the art. She honed her skills at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, where she not only mastered various dance forms but also exuded the joy and freedom that dancing brought to her spirit. Her love for elegant movements and music was matched only by her love for people. Sara had a gift for socializing and entertaining, bringing warmth and laughter into every gathering. She lit up every room she walked in and showed everyone what it looked like to be a true woman of God. Her home was always filled with the aroma of her cooking and the sound of friends and family enjoying her company.
A woman of deep faith, Sara was a dedicated member of her Bible study group. She lived her life as a testament to her love for Christ, drawing strength from her faith during life's most challenging moments. Her gentle spirit and generous heart made her a beacon of light in her community.
Sara's devotion to her family was unwavering. She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Ellis Wilson Lucas. Together, they were the epitome of love and partnership, often referred to as the "Barbie and Ken" of Windemere, not only for their striking looks but for their perfectly synchronized dance through life. Their love story was one of mutual support and enduring affection, even when life's rhythm changed to a more challenging tempo.
She was a cherished mother to her sons, Stewart Christian (Michele Rogers) Lucas Sr. and Todd Bryant (Maxie) Lucas, who will forever remember her as the guiding force of compassion and grace in their lives. Sara was blessed to see her legacy continue through her grandchildren, Stewart Christian (Hannah) Lucas Jr., Carlton Wilson (Emma) Lucas, Ruth Helen Lucas, Rose Bryant Lucas, and Rebekah Grace Lucas, and her great-granddaughter, Brinley Rose Lucas. Each of them carry a piece of Sara's loving heart and gentle spirit.
Preceded in death by her parents, Sigmond Castor Childs and George Dewey Bryant Childs, Sara now joins them in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and the gentle imprint of her dancing feet on the hearts of all who knew her.
Sara was the embodiment of class, always carrying herself with a poise that inspired admiration and respect. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the beauty of art, and the strength of faith. She will be fondly remembered as a loving, generous, and gentle soul, whose life was a dance of devotion and joy. Sara Childs Lucas's memory will forever waltz in the cherished moments she shared with her family, friends, and all who were touched by her radiant life.
