I only knew Sam for a brief while in the early 70s when he came to Colorado State University to do his role in Carmen with we musical students and the opera company in Denver. A booming voice and personality as big as the man himself. In addition to his performance, I will long remember with fond memories taking Sam, Rosalind Elias, and Nick DiVirgilio out for dinner in Denver.
Sam was one of my favorite folks at Auburn. Always kind, funny and a joy to be around. He and my Florence mentor, Joe Groom, could brighten a room. Now, they can brighten heaven with song. Rest well, Sam.

I love the entire Timberlake family and am so sorry for their loss. Sam's voice was only found once in a lifetime and we loved to hear him sing. My favorite memory are the loving and lovely sentiments he said to his wife. Mary told me when she was pregnant with Sambo, she was lamenting her size and Sam told her, "I think I'll never see anyone more beautiful than the woman who is carrying my child!" That thought will never leave me.
