Mr. S. D. Cheaney Jr.'s Obituary
Funeral service for Mr. S.D. Cheaney Jr., 85, of Cragford, will be Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Braden Morrison, Rev. Charles Stone, and Rev. Richard East will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home. \r\n\r\nMr. Cheaney passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Russell Medical Center. He was born on December 5, 1925 in Clay County, Alabama to Seaborn D. Cheaney, Sr. and Lou Ella Daughtery Cheaney. He was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church South for 63 years and deacon for over 50 years. He was also a Mason of the Mt. Eagle Masonic Lodge #181 in New Site. Mr. Cheaney worked for Avondale for over 46 years as Drawing In Operator. He also served on the Clay County Board of Education for two terms and the Board of Directors at Avondale Credit Union. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and was an avid bird hunter and Alabama fan. Mr. Cheaney also enjoyed visiting and spending time with neighbors and friends. He was very giving and loved his family immensely. \r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Melba Champion Cheaney of Cragford; daughters, Sandra Cheaney Hearn (Bill) of Ashland and Martha Cheaney Boyd (Randy) of Sylacauga; sons, Terry L. Cheaney (Connie) and Michael D. Cheaney (Kelly) both of Cragford; grandchildren, Clay Cotney (Dana), Christy Merrill (Brian), Lindsay Hickman (Travis), Kayla Boyd, Melanie Boyd, Travis Cheaney (Kristi), Adam Cheaney (Emily), Chase Cheaney, Caitlin Cheaney, and Colby Cheaney; great-grandchildren, Meagan Cotney, Trent Cotney, Chaney Merrill, Briley Merrill, Rance Merrill, Tristan Cheaney, and #7 Hickman.\r\n\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Vida McDaniel and Versa McCain.\r\n\r\nThe family will accept flowers, or memorial contributions may be given to Bethel Baptist Church, 1801 Bethel Circle, Cragford, AL 36255.\r\n
