Mrs. Ruth Templeton Thomas
1929 - 2022
Funeral Service for Mrs. Ruth Templeton Thomas, 93, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be
Friday, August 5, 2022, at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church - Alexander City. Dr.
Kevin Thomas and Rev. Mike Densmore will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview
Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 5:00 pm to
7:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thomas passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Chapman's Healthcare. She was born on
April 8, 1929, in Alexander City, Alabama to Walker Templeton and Della Ashworth
Templeton. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she played the
organ and served as the choir director until 1984 and then transferred to First United Methodist
Church - Alexander City where she also played the organ. She taught music from her home for
many years. Mrs. Ruth enjoyed caring for her family, crocheting, sewing, and cooking.
She is survived by her sons, Derryl Thomas (Dinah) of Alexander City, Glenn Thomas (Sheila)
of Birmingham, David Thomas (Renee') of Hickory, NC, and Dr. Kevin Thomas (Melissa) of
Tuscaloosa; Grandchildren, Chad Thomas, Amanda Frank (Sean), David Thomas (Elizabeth),
Nicki Thomas, Karen Chandler (Daniel), Morgan Walters (Travis), Trent Thomas (Morgan),
Michael Thomas, Katherine Thomas (Hannah), and Olivia Thomas; great-grandchildren, Kyle
Frank, John Thomas, Ethan Chandler, Jackson Chandler, Judah Chandler, Savannah Walters,
Stetson Walters, and Elliott Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 50 years, Jimmy Thomas; and her
sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn Gardner Nicholson, and Joel Gardner.
The family requests no flowers and memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritans of
FUMC 310 Green Street Alexander City, AL 35010.
