Ruth Julianne Cockey's Obituary
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Julianne Cockey will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel at Radney Funeral Home. Ruth Julianne Greer Cockey...amazing Mom; devoted Wife; doting Grandmama, Sister, Cousin, Aunt, and Friend to many...passed to her eternal rest on October 31, 2023. Julia's two-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia ended with Covid.
Born in Alexander City, AL on May 7, 1949, Julia relocated with the Greer family to Moultrie, GA, where she graduated from Moultrie High School in 1967. After marrying her first husband, she gave birth to her only child in 1969. The Davis family then moved to Tampa, FL in 1970. Julia had a 30-year career in the commercial insurance industry. She retired with numerous awards and recognitions for her management of significant corporate accounts. In 1983, Julia remarried after meeting the love of her life. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary August of this year.
Julia is survived by her husband Gary Lee Cockey; daughter Dana Renea Cure (Jorge) of Asheville, NC; granddaughter Audrey Alexandra Nash of Honolulu, HI; brothers Herschel Henderson Greer, Jr. of Alexander City, AL and David Nathan Greer (Patsy) of Flowery Branch, GA; nieces and nephews Holly Gwaltney (Rudy) of Bamberg, SC, John Thomas Greer, Jr. (Jeanna) of Hoschton, GA, Bonny Greer Verrechio of Franklin, NC, Rachel Willis (Matt) of Alpharetta, GA, Nathan Greer (Lindsay) of Roswell, GA, and Perry Greer (April) of Ocilla, GA; as well as a plethora of cousins, and the next generation.
She is preceded in death by her parents Herschel Henderson and Madelle Johnson Greer; and brothers Michael Wayne Greer, John Thomas Greer and wife Linda Tucker.Vibrant, intelligent, clever, funny, and insightful are just a few of Julia's traits. She read voraciously, loved to dance, and her zest for life was infectious. She took pride in her work, with an exceptional detail in all things, especially her family-the greatest legacy of her love.
