Funeral Service for Mr. Roy Elvis Purvis, 81, of Jacksons Gap, Alabama, will be Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Radney Funeral Home.
Roy Elvis Purvis, 81, of Jacksons Gap, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at his residence.
Mr. Purvis was born on August 12, 1944, in Ambrose, Georgia, to J.B. and Iris Lucille Wheeler. He lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a warm spirit that touched the lives of many. Roy was known as a Christian man whose faith guided his steps and shaped the way he cared for others. He was a man of generous heart, creative mind, and a sense of humor that brought laughter and comfort to those around him.
Roy worked as a certified welder and held a Class A CDL license, reflecting the strong work ethic and determination that were hallmarks of his life. He took pride in doing honest work and in providing for the people he loved. Whether on the job or at home, he was dependable, steady, and committed to the responsibilities entrusted to him.
In his free time, Roy enjoyed fishing, woodwork, boating, and watching Alabama football. He was also a devoted NASCAR fan and found great joy in cheering on his favorite teams and drivers. Some of his happiest moments were spent surrounded by family and friends, especially during BBQ gatherings where good food, conversation, and fellowship were always shared. He treasured time with those closest to him and made lasting memories through simple pleasures and meaningful togetherness.
Roy is survived by his wife, Debbie Mann Purvis; his daughter, Melissa Purvis Evans and her husband, Scott; his sons, James Elvis Purvis and his wife, Jenny, William Roy Purvis, Brandon Roy Purvis, Brian Allen Purvis and his wife, Kylene, and Nicklaus Scott Purvis and his wife, Heather; his grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Statum and her husband, Daniel, Sasha Marie Stewart and her husband, Jason, Crystal Rose Bussey, Cole Bruce, Amber Purvis, Macon Tilley and her partner, William Faircloth, Madison Purvis, Josh Brumfield and his wife, Lynnsie, Jacob Purvis, Kayden Purvis, Kyla Purvis, and Lucas Purvis; his great-grandchildren, Abby Statum, Tripp Statum, Janson Stewart, Jaxon Portuese, Chloe Brumfield, Annaelise, Kenzlee, Taevon, and Jamarcus; his siblings, F.D. Purvis, Glynda Hale, and Glenn Wheeler; and dear friends, Bobby and Diana Statum, Fred Allen, Jimmy Crocker, and Billy Watson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Iris Lucille Wheeler; his grandson, James Michael McHan; his great-granddaughter, Reese Statum; his brother, Russell Purvis; mother-in-law, Gail Thompson and sister-in-law, Susan Colley.
Those who knew Roy will remember a man who was generous in spirit, creative in thought, and funny in the way he could brighten a room with ease. He had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued, and his presence brought comfort and strength to his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the lives he influenced, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
Though his earthly journey has ended, the memory of Roy Elvis Purvis will remain a blessing to all who loved him. His family and friends will continue to cherish the many moments they shared with him and will hold close the example of a life lived with faith, devotion, and love.
