Mr. Rolland Lane Jorenby's Obituary
Memorial Service for Mr. Rolland Lane Jorenby, 81, of Bessemer, Alabama, will be Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 12:30 pm at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. Pastor Sally Harris will officiate.
Mr. Jorenby, known affectionately as "Rollie," passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023, at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on April 24, 1942, in Volga, South Dakota, Rollie's life was marked by a passion for his family, his work, and his love for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Rollie's career was as impressive as it was impactful. He was part of the team that installed communication systems for the Apollo rockets. His contributions to NASA were not only significant but also a source of personal pride and accomplishment. His intelligence and thoughtful nature were evident in every project he undertook. After his career with NASA he worked as a Master Electrician.
Beyond his professional life, Rollie was a devoted family man. He leaves behind a loving family; sons Randall (Tammy) and Robbie (Toni), stepdaughter Angela Kennedy (Chris), and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will remember him fondly. His sister, Linda Santema and brother Larry Jorenby also survives him. Rollie was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Jorenby, daughter, Pam McFerrin, parents LouAnn Cavanaugh and Everett Jorenby, sister, Randi Johnston, and his beloved wife, Nita Jorenby.
A passionate Alabama fan, Rollie was often found cheering for his team during football season. His love for the sport was infectious, bringing joy and excitement to those around him. His humor and kindness, combined with his intelligence, made him a joy to be around.
In remembering Rollie, we celebrate a man of integrity, humor, and intelligence. His warmth and love for his family, his commitment to his work, and his loyalty to his favorite football team were all testament to the kind of man he was. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him. Rollie's life was a testament to the power of love, hard work, and dedication. He will be greatly missed.
