Mrs. Lashley passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 at her home. She was born on July 19, 1949 in Alexander City, Alabama to Ernest Roy McManus and Florella Tucker McManus. Rita graduated Baptist Southern Nursing school in 1968. After graduating she spent time working at the Old Dadeville Hospital, Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery, Bill Nichols State Veterans Home, and eventually Chapmans Nursing Home. On top of serving full time as a nurse, Rita taught CNA classes at several of the places she worked. She spent her life caring for others in need.
As well as being an excellent nurse, Rita was the glue who held everyone together. She enjoyed teaching new nurses how to be a nurse. As much care as she gave to her patients, her family always came first.
Rita and her two sisters took many road trips throughout the south. The entire McManus clan is known for their premature gray hair and when they were seen in public they were usually mistaken as triplets. Later, her brother Rick commissioned a humorous painting of the three called "The Sisters".
To know "The Lashley" was to love her. Her legacy will forever live on through the many Nurses and CNAs that she worked with and taught through her years, as well as her daughters. She loved her work family as much as she loved her family. May her wisdom and humor live on through each of you.
She is survived by her daughters, Risa (Kevin) Brown and Angela Rogers both of Alexander City; grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Chaffin of Wetumpka, Dakota (Bobby) McDaniel of Jacksons Gap, Andie Lamberth of Birmingham, and Sawyer Brown of Alexander City; great-grandchild, Amelia McDaniel of Jacksons Gap; sister, Kay (Chris) Smith of Alexander City; brother, Rick McManus of Alexander City; sister-in-law, Margaret McManus; and brother-in-law, Hoyt Wayne Stoffregen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger Lashley; sister, Irene Stoffregen; and brother, Ray McManus.
The family would like to express a heartfelt "Thank You" to Dr. Sunil Sharma and Dr. Vincent Law for the excellent care provided to their loved one.
