Mr. Richard Charles Underkofler, affectionately known as Dick, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on September 17, 1938, he lived a full and vibrant life marked by his selfless nature, loving heart, and infectious humor. Dick's legacy is one of joy, generosity, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness.
Dick was a man of many passions, finding delight in the roar of a motorcycle, the hum of a tractor, and the challenge of tinkering on cars. His hands were rarely still, as they were often busy with a project or wrapped around the controls of an airplane, as he was also a skilled and licensed pilot. Above all, his greatest love was for his family, who remained the cornerstone of his existence.
He is survived by his devoted second wife, Joyce Underkofler of Alexander City, AL, with whom he shared years of companionship and love. His memory will be cherished by his children: Anjanette (Steve) Lacey of Alexander City, AL, Dale Underkofler of Concord, CA, Lisa (Francis) Boateng of Valencia, CA, Michael (Moriah) Turturice of Gallatin, TN, Laura (Larry) Barksdale of Maylene, AL, and Lisa Pollitt of Woodstock, GA. His life was further enriched by the joy of his 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
Dick also leaves behind his brother, Harry Gus (Esther) Underkofler, and a special loved one, Tammy (Reggie) Brooks of Jacksons Gap, AL, both of whom will miss his presence deeply. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Oliver Harlan Underkofler and Mary Ellen Underkofler, and his cherished first wife, Sandra Ann Underkofler.
Throughout his life, Dick was the embodiment of the word 'selfless.' He consistently put the needs of others before his own, offering his help without hesitation or expectation of return. His loving nature was evident in the way he cared for his family and friends, always providing support and warmth. His sense of humor was a source of joy and laughter for all who knew him, ensuring that his spirit will continue to bring smiles even as he is fondly remembered.
As we bid farewell to Dick Underkofler, we celebrate a life extraordinarily well-lived. His was a journey of love, laughter, and the simple pleasures of life. We take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the memories he has left behind and the imprint he has made on our hearts. Dick's life was a testament to the beauty of giving, the strength of character, and the power of love. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
