Mrs. Rebecca Joy Shivers' Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Rebecca Joy Shivers, 91, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Orr Street Baptist Church. Rev. Turk Holt and Bro. Vern Ogle will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kellyton Memory Garden. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home. Mrs. Shivers will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Shivers passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Russell Medical Center. She was born on May 17, 1931 in Lexington, Alabama to Parker Thomas McCain and Ethel Inez Thomas McCain. She was a longtime member of Orr Street Baptist Church. She volunteered for several charity organizations around town, including Children's Harbor, AlaCare, Russell Friends of Hospice, Cub Scouts, and many others. She was an avid reader. She also enjoyed word search puzzles. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was a devout Christian and always let her faith guide her in her life.
She is survived by her sons, Carey Shivers (Carla) of Edinburg, TX, Herbert Shivers (Alisa) of Auburn, and Jimmy Shivers (Lisa) of Alexander City; daughter-in-law, Jean Shivers; grandchildren, Vicky Johnson (Kevin), Teena Littleton (Pace), Dusty Vela (Richard), and Ryan Shivers (Melanie); 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren with one on the way; and brother, Jerald McCain.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otis "Kilroy" Shivers, Jr.; sisters, Inez Buzbee, Dorothy Barton, and Jimmy Ruth Tucker; brothers, J.T. McCain and Joseph Parker McCain.
