Mr. Owen Herbert Oliver's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. Owen Herbert Oliver, 92, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Wheeles will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Oliver passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022, at Russell Medical. He was born on March 7, 1930, in New Site, Alabama to William Herbert Oliver and Mary Frances Blythe Oliver. Owen met the love of his life, Nadine via the AIDB pen pal program and married in 1955. From this marriage they had two children whom they loved dearly. Owen was a hard-working husband and father who took pride in caring for his family. He was employed at Firestone for 25 years and Russell Mills for 20 years before retiring. During his time attending AIDB he attended classes to become a barber. He was a train enthusiast, had a passion for genealogy and was a big jokester.
He is survived by his daughter, Libby Engstrom (Kevin); son, Tim Oliver; grandchildren, Josh Smith, Austin Smith (Alisha), Hanna Smith; great-grandchildren, Oakley Smith, Ethan Smith, Nathan Smith, Ayla Gilley; sister, Sarah Roebuck and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Gussie Nadine Oliver; parents and brother, Kermit Oliver.
The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to AIDB, 205 South Street East, Talladega, AL, 35160.
