Mrs. Nellie Jo Jones' Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Nellie Jo Jones, 90, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Dr. Josh Sammons and Rev. Chase Clower will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nellie Jo Jones, a loving, faith-filled, and kind-hearted woman, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023, in Alexander City, Alabama. She was born on October 14, 1932, in Cragford, Alabama, to the late Benjamin Frank Caldwell and Ida Wright Caldwell.
After graduating high school, she married Mr. John Wayne Jones. Mrs. Jones spent her career serving others in various capacities. She began her work life as a dedicated telephone operator. After many years, she transitioned to Russell Corporation, where she retired. Later in life, she worked for several years at the Salvation Army.
Mrs. Jones was a devoted member of Hillabee Baptist Church. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, influencing her actions and interactions with others. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she found great joy in spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jones enjoyed vacationing in the Smoky Mountains with her family and friends. She also held a special fondness for baking cakes, a hobby that brought joy to many family gatherings and celebrations.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Harris (Tim), Robin Bradberry (Wade), and Jennie Hoppenjan (David); her grandchildren, Taylor Harris, Clay Harris (April), Diana Shunkwiler (Brian), Denise Curtis (Daniel), Andy Hoppenjan, and Michael Hoppenjan; and her great-grandchildren, Cayden Harris, Brady Harris, Brylee Shunkwiler, Noah Shunkwiler, Raleigh Anna Harris, Mattie Harris, Penelope Curtis, Landon Harris, Charlotte Curtis, John Parker Harris, and Jackson Curtis. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wayne Jones; her sisters, Frances Walton, Jo Long, Lillie Mae Betts, Cora Lee Worthy, Laverne Betts, Lois Caldwell, Gertrude Heard; her brothers, Truman Caldwell, Heflin Caldwell, Woodrow Caldwell; and her granddaughter, Kate Lynn Hoppenjan.
Mrs. Jones left a lasting mark on the lives of those she touched. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her red velvet cakes, and her love for family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vivian Reese, Bessie Kelly, and Patsy Hallman, who helped care for her in these last few years.
