Mrs. Carolyn Ann Foshee's Obituary
Mrs. Carolyn Ann Foshee, of Tallassee Alabama, passed away in her home on May 15, 2024 at age 85. She was born on May 18, 1938 in Alexander City, Alabama to Clem Scott and Sarah Turner Scott. The funeral service for Mrs. Foshee will be Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Clint McBroom will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John T. Foshee; daughter, Vangie Ann (William F. McDonnell, III) Foshee of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; son, John Timothy (Tammy ) Foshee of Eufaula, Alabama; grandchildren, Laura Ann (Josh) Butts, Nick Montgomery Foshee, John William McDonnell, Thomas Scott McDonnell. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Dorothy Bishop, and Julia Crain.
Mrs. Foshee was kind-hearted, generous, fun, and full of energy-a little spark-plug. And she loved to laugh! And that laughter was contagious, brightening any room that she was in. It was especially contagious to her sisters Dot and Julia (now deceased) and her niece Kathi duke, whom she loved dearly. Those four spent a lot of time together, usually doubled over in laughter at something that had happened.
Mrs. Foshee, Nana, adored her grandchildren, as they did her. She was one of them! She played dress up, climbed trees, played ball, and laughed with them, had picnics on the roof of the shed, and was the only one of the other adults in the family who the kids ask to play a part in their home theater productions (and there were many of them). This way of being had a wonderful impact on the grandkids. As her granddaughter Laura Ann said "Nana showed me the value of being in touch with your inner child. Her play and silly side made nana glow." It showed even in the last days of her life when Nana and Laura Ann shared a nose kiss and a giggle.
Mrs. Foshee was an outstanding cook and she put those skills to use for her family and community. She worked for Nell Mann in Tallassee Alabama as a caterer making delicious food for many corporate parties and community events and she made and sold delicately iced petit fours and homemade cakes-caramel cake and sour cream pound cake were her specialties. She also planned, organized, and cooked the Wednesday night suppers at the First United Methodist Church in Tallassee Alabama with her dear friend Betty Segrest for over 10 years. People still come up to her family to say how much they loved those dinners.
Artistic activities were integral to her being-from drawing, painting, and making ceramics, to decorating pine cones for Christmas and designing the decorations for birthday cakes. She fostered art in her grandchildren. As her Granddaughter Laura Ann said "Nana encouraged me to draw and paint so much that she had a dedicated drawer full of art supplies for me in the house and she always gave me encouraging feedback and motivated me to do it more". Her grandson honored Nana in her dying days with his art of playing the guitar.
Athletics were also integral to who she was. She coached softball for many years and was a fierce competitor in community tennis leagues when living in Augusta Georgia; she continued to coach young tennis players when in Tallassee.
