Mona Marie Flournoy Hamil, affectionately known as Marie to her family and friends, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at her residence. Born on March 10, 1938 in Clay County, Alabama, she was the daughter of Mr. Eddie B. Flournoy and Mrs. Annie Maude Mask Flournoy. Marie was a kindhearted, loving woman who wouldn't hesitate to help in any way that she could. She rarely met a stranger and had many friends that she enjoyed feeding whenever she got the chance. Marie was a faithful member of Comer Memorial Baptist Church where she frequently volunteered with their Outreach program, Vacation Bible School, and other projects around the church. She delivered and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and helped with the Tallapoosa County Crisis Center.
Marie enjoyed genealogy and published several books documenting her families' roots. She loved baking, cooking, canning, and making candy to share with her family and friends. Her green thumb was evident in the blooms of her flowers and the fresh vegetables from tending to her garden. Marie compiled a cookbook of family recipes and gave them to loved ones with personalized messages.
Marie was a devoted wife to her husband, Ronald, for 68 years. Together, they created many memories and a legacy that will provide insight for future family genealogists to explore. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who lovingly called her "Maw Maw." In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. Marie lived a beautiful life with a heart full of love. She planted, nurtured, and grew a sturdy foundation for the branches of her family tree to thrive. It's no doubt that she will be remembered and treasured by those who knew her. Just like the branches of a might oak tree, Marie's legacy will stretch far and provide a comforting memory that her family will never forget.
Marie is survived by her loving husband, John Ronald Hamil; daughter, Rebecca Ann (George) Cagle; grandchildren, Amy Leann (Steven) Weaver, Nicholas Blake (Ashley) Gill; great-grandchildren, Gracie Susan Gill, Levi Nicholas Gill, Colson Hunter Weaver, Hannah Claire Weaver; sister, Wanda Sue Campbell; and brother, Carlton (Agnes) Flournoy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie & Annie Flournoy and brothers, Arnold Flournoy, Donald Flournoy, and Charles Flournoy.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to "Meals on Wheels" at Russell Medical Center or to the Tallapoosa County Crisis Center.
