Mr. Michael Wayne Whitehead's Obituary
Graveside Service for Mr. Michael Wayne Whitehead, 76, of Rockford, will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 10:00 am at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma.
Michael Whitehead, born on July 9, 1947, in Poteau, OK, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023, in Rockford, AL. He was known to all who loved him as a wise, courageous, and selfless man, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Michael proudly served his country as a First Sergeant in the United States Army, dedicating over 20 years of his life to his service. His dedication, bravery, and leadership were an inspiration to all who served with him. His legacy in the military is one of honor, commitment, and an unwavering love for his country.
Away from his military duties, Michael was a devoted family man. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly, often seen with a beaming smile as he watched them grow. His hobbies included bird hunting and skeet shooting, but, above all, he cherished family get-togethers. His presence at these gatherings brought joy, laughter, and a sense of unity that will be profoundly missed. Michael had a presence about him that will forever leave a mark on their heart and a smile on their face. He could always be found with a Camel (non-filter) cigarette in hand and occasionally, a glass of Jack Daniels whiskey in the other. Michael was a family man but make no mistake, he was also a competitive man when it came to playing pool. He knew how to put his sons-in-law and grandson-in-law in their place when it came to shooting pool. At the end of it all, they knew who the real Ace was and would always be.
Michael is survived by his daughters, Ramona Cina (Daniel) of Rockford, AL, and Christina Jameson (Chad) of Billings, MO. His grandchildren, Nicole Arthur of Leeds, Lindsey Hammond (Andrew) of Rockford, Loren Arthur of Rockford and Taylor and Gracie Jameson of Billings, MO, will remember their grandfather with love and admiration. His great-grandchildren, Jaxon Hammond, Ryann Reid, and Greyson Hammond, will continue to hear stories of their great-grandfather's wisdom and courage. He also leaves behind his brother, Phil Whitehead (Janice) of Blair, NE, nephew, Jud Whitehead, sister-in-law, Lillie Hicks; and a host of other family and friends that he loved.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Wayne Whitehead, mother, Helen Lucille Whitehead, wife, Monika Magdalena Whitehead, and brother, Joe Whitehead. Their reunion brings comfort to those left behind, knowing that they are together once more.
Michael's memory will forever be engrained in the hearts of his loved ones. His strength, wisdom, and selfless nature will continue to inspire all who knew him. As we remember Michael, we will celebrate his life, honor his service, and cherish the love he had for his family. He will be deeply missed.
