Mrs Merlene Powell Gordon's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Merlene Powell Gordon, 85, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 2:30 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Bro. Donnie Pritchard will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gordon passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Brown Nursing Home. She was born on April 17, 1936 in Clay County, Alabama to Charlie Homer Powell and Sally Suggs Powell. She met her husband Larry when they were working together in Ashland, and they we December 30, 1961. She worked as a seamstress for Russell Corporation for 19 years. She and Larry were longtime members of Comer Memorial United Methodist Church, and they each year looked forward to fellowship at the church’s Fall BBQ Sale and Country Store. She spent her retired years crocheting and working her yards and flowers beds.
She is survived by her sister, Faye Johnston of Alexander City; sister-in-law, Nell Powell of Ashland; niece, Angela Hunnicutt of Alexander City; great niece, Victoria Whitley (Ben) of Anniston; great nephew, Richard Hunnicutt, III of Ashland; and great great nephew, Marcus Whitley of Anniston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Addison Gordon; brother, John Powell; brother-in-law, Bobby Johnston; and nephew-in-law, Richard Brian Hunnicutt, Jr.
