Mr. Melvin Thomas Smith's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. Melvin Thomas Smith, 88, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Dr. Matt Haines will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. He was born on November 20, 1932 in Alexander City, Alabama to Arthur Thomas Smith and Gertrude Sewell Smith. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War. After returning home, he worked for the State of Alabama as an accountant for over fifty years. He was a member of Sixth Street Baptist Church where he was a deacon and served as the treasurer for over 25 years. He was a devoted Alabama football fan. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Smith; sons, Tim Smith (Christina) of Madison, AL, and Tony Smith (Kendra) of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Caleb Smith, Calista Smith, and Daviston Smith; brothers, Gerald H. Smith (Betty), and Richard Smith; and sister, Reba Orr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donnie Smith; and Betty Smith.
