Melba Sue Champion's Obituary
Melba Sue Champion went to be the Lord on March 29, 2024. She was known as Sue, Mamaw, and MaMa Sue by her friends, family, and relatives. She was born in Hackneyville, Alabama to Lonza and Mittie Williams Brock. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack H. Champion with whom she moved to Birmingham to live and raise a family. Mrs. Champion was also predeceased by her sisters, Maxine Hunter, and Betty Whitehead, and her brother, Byron H. Brock. She is survived by her three children, Jeffery J. Champion (Patti), Belinda Murphy (David), and Gregory L. Champion (Laura). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Cole Champion, Kristen Edwards (Luke), Amy Witt (Andrew), Austin Harris (Shelby), Joshua Champion (Brianna), Baskin McFarland (Andrew), Abby Champion, and Luke Champion. She is also survived by her 10 great-grandchildren as well as her sisters, Janis Lucas and Syble Warren; and brother, Wyndle Brock.
She loved her family, was a great cook and always had an extra plate at the table for those visiting or in need of a good meal. She was hospitable, giving and concerned for others. She had a long career at Durr-Fillauer Medical Company and later "worked" at Homewood Park Community Center where she shared love, wisdom, and stories. She befriended all who walked in the doors. During covid, she was no longer able to work and eventually moved into assisted living at Danberry at Inverness and later to Wellpoint Senior Living in Huntsville. After a fairly abrupt illness she went to be with the Lord on March 29th, 2024.
The most important thing about Sue Champion was her faith in the Lord and her relationship with Jesus Christ. She was constantly talking about her God and how He provided, protected, and comforted her. She is now in the hands of her Living Savior and in the presence of her Loving Lord.
The funeral services for Sue Champion will be held Wednesday April 3, 2024, at Radney's Funeral Home in Alexander City, Alabama. A funeral service will be held at 11 am with visitation one hour before. There will be a short graveside service following at Hillview Memorial Park where she will be interred next to her husband of 53 years.
The Champion family would like to thank all those involved in the care and comfort of our mother and grandmother including the staff at Danberry and Wellpoint Senior Living. Thanks so much to the Hospice Family Care of Huntsville Hospital. Their facility and staff were such a blessing to our family. Thanks especially to Cynthia McRoy, LaToya Jones, Nadiia Skorobohach for the personal care and support they provided to our mother. We also want to thank our Lord and Jesus Christ, for His life, death, and resurrection that provides us with a way to know God and live with Him in eternity.
The family requests any donations to be made to The Big Oak Ranch, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or The St. Jude Children's Hospital.
