Mrs. Mavis P. Stevens' Obituary
Graveside Service for Mrs. Mavis P. Stevens, 102, of Birmingham, Alabama, will be Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 12:30 pm at Hillview Memorial Park. Pastor Russell DeLee will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mavis Stevens, a beacon of love and faith, passed away surrounded by the warmth of her family's love. Born with a heart full of grace and a spirit of generosity, Mavis's life was a testament to the values she held dear. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Mavis is survived by a loving family that was the center of her world. Her daughter, Charolette (Thomas) Hamby of Birmingham, AL, and her son, William Jackson (Kimeran) Stevens of Vestavia, AL, will forever hold dear the lessons of compassion and integrity she instilled in them. Her grandsons, Todd Evan (Lana) Hamby, David Scott (Shelley) Stevens, Steven Hamby, Mark (Michelle) Hamby, William Andrew (Sarah) Stevens, and Jeffrey Pascal (Holleigh) Hamby, will continue her legacy of kindness and strong moral character. She was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her later years. Mavis was a cherished aunt to numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William Stevens; father, Luther Jackson Parker; mother, Katura Z. Parker; brother, Joseph Charles Parker and sisters, Evelyn Smith and Ruenell Pritchett.
Mavis's journey began as a graduate of Mellow Valley High School, a place where she formed lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for her future. Her work ethic shone brightly throughout her 40-year tenure at Russell Corporation, where she was a valued member of the production planning department. Her colleagues will remember her as a dedicated and meticulous professional who brought warmth and enthusiasm to her work.
A devout Christian, Mavis lived her faith through action. She was a wonderful seamstress, a great cook, and an avid traveler, especially enjoying trips with her church group. Her dedication to her church was evident as she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and helped with vacation bible school. Her strong Christian values were a guiding light to all, and her unwavering ethics and morals stood as a pillar of her character.
Mavis's interests reflected her love for her community and her faith. She was a loving mother, a faith-filled worshipper, and a thoughtful friend. Her kindness touched the lives of many, and her guidance was a source of comfort and strength.
As we say goodbye to Mavis Stevens, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and her influence will continue to inspire kindness and faith in the generations to come. Mavis's journey on earth may have ended, but her spirit remains a guiding star in the lives of her beloved family and friends.
