Mavis Sallas' Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Mavis Sallas, 94, of Rockford, Alabama, will be Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Union Baptist Church. Bro. Chris Crumbley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rockford City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Union Baptist Church.
Mrs. Sallas passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at her residence. She was born on July 15, 1929 in Rockford, Alabama to Audie Cowart and Ernie Lee Brown Cowart. She was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church. In her youth, she operated the switch board for her parents' telephone company in Rockford. Later, Mavis worked with the Civil Service at the Draft Board in Rockford. She loved cooking, quilting, and crocheting. A genealogical expert, Mavis was a member of the Coosa County Historical Society. She led the effort to catalog all graves in the cemeteries of Coosa County. Mavis adored her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Wilson of Rockford; sons, Robert Larry Sallas (Cathy) of Deatsville, Enoch Gregory Sallas of Rockford, and Thomas Jeffrey Sallas of Rockford; grandchildren, Angela Wilson, Christina Lee Wilson Crumbley (Ronny), William Wilson (Tanya), Joshua Wilson (Sara), Carolyn Sallas Bryant, Michael Sallas (Missy), Stephen Sallas, Jennifer Buzbee, Robert Sallas (Jessica), Tabitha Letcher (Josh), Chris Sallas, T.J. Sallas, and Caylan Sallas; 14 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; brother, Robert Cowart; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Enoch Sallas; son, Stephen Wiley Sallas; brother, Arthur Cowart; and sister, Carol Pless.
