Funeral Service for Ms. Maureen Denney Gray, 92, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Randy Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Maureen Denney Gray, affectionately known as Maureen to her loved ones, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at the age of 92 in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on March 10, 1932, in Clay County, Alabama, Maureen was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her.
Maureen's life was one of dedication and service, both to her family and her community. She spent over 30 years working in the textile industry as a cloth inspector, where her keen eye for detail and commitment to quality were greatly valued. Maureen's work ethic was unmatched, and her contributions to the industry left a lasting impact.
Outside of her professional life, Maureen was deeply involved in her community. She was a member of Stone Ridge Baptist Church, where her faith and love for the Lord shone brightly. Maureen's kindness and gentle spirit were evident in her volunteer work with the Salvation Army and in her role as a welcoming door greeter at Walmart. Her selflessness and willingness to help others were traits that defined her.
Maureen's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She had a passion for flowers and could often be found tending to her beautiful flower gardens, a testament to her nurturing nature. Maureen was also an exceptional cook, known for her best biscuits and cornbread that brought comfort and joy to family gatherings. Her beautiful and contagious laugh was a source of happiness for everyone around her.
Above all, Maureen cherished her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother, whose presence was a warm and comforting embrace. She is survived by her sons, Bobby Glenn Johnston and Wendell Ray (Kim) Johnston; daughters, Sherri Lynn (Steve) Love and Terri Ann Murray; grandchildren, Amy Love (Randy) Calton, Eric (Katie) Murray, Steven (Shrmyn) Love, Lori Johnston, and Lindsey Johnston; great-grandchildren, Riley Carlton, Dakota Carlton, Sawyer Love, Scarlet Love, Haley Love, Ainsley Champion, Ashton Kittrell, Ellie Maureen Johnston, and Rhett Murray; and special friend, Jimmy Singleton.
Maureen was preceded in death by her father, William Lee Denney; mother, Mary Izella Denney; sisters, Myrtle Robinson, Gladys Mae LaFever, Arie Griffin, Ethelene Hancock, and Pauline Epperson; and brothers, William Earby Denney, Eugene Denney, John Quentin Denney, Neal Denney, and Huey Lee Denney.
Maureen's legacy is one of love, kindness, and gentleness. She touched the lives of many and will be remembered for the warmth and care she extended to all. Her impact on her family and community will continue to be felt for generations to come.
