Marvin died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on September 20, 2025 at his home in Daviston, Alabama. He was born April 21, 1943 in Alexander City, Alabama to Loonis Henry McDaniel and Verlie Futral McDaniel. Marvin graduated from Daviston High School in 1961; he then attended Southern Union College. Marvin spent a number of years working at Russell Corporation and Pargas. After which, he owned and operated McDaniel’s Grocery and later Maw and Paw’s Diner in Daviston.
Marvin enjoyed playing basketball with the Russell traveling basketball team. He also loved to fish and was an avid hunter. He was very fond of deer hunting, rabbit hunting and coon hunting. But what he adored most was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Marvin was known for his generosity as he always delighted in cooking Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for the community. He got a kick out of having rabbit hash and chitterling cookings for his friends and family.
Marvin will be remembered as a fun loving husband, dad, friend and “Paw” who always provided much comic relief with his storytelling and antics. He will be greatly missed by so many. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Needra Peters McDaniel, son David McDaniel (Cameron), daughter, Dana Cotney (Clay); grandchildren, Colby McDaniel, Victoria McDaniel, Morgan Daugherty (Duston), Heydin McDaniel, Meagan Young (Blake), Trent Cotney (Harleigh); great-grandchildren, Gunnar McDaniel and Jan Marie Young, sister, Reba Wadsworth (Mike) along with many extended family members and life long family friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant twin sons.
Pallbearers will be Brad Jennings, Christopher Jennings, Derek Bice, Kane Bice, Brad Tucker, Andy Tucker, Brandon Black and Tony Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Daviston Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
