Mrs. Bailey passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Dadeville Healthcare. She was born on October 31, 1935 in Cusseta, AL to Veston Baker and Mayme Mae McWhorter Baker Drago.
In her early years, Marlene attended grade school in St. Petersburg, FL, later attending Opelika High School and Alexander City Community College. After an extended career with Russell Corporation, she retired in 1992 as an executive assistant. After retirement, she managed the office for Rip-It Sports and Screen Printing, allowing some extra time to care for her grandchildren. She was a woman of faith and had served as Sunday School Teacher and Girls in Action (GA) leader at Calvary Heights Baptist Church. She was most recently a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alexander City, where she loved singing with the choir. She worked at the voting polls for many years and volunteered at the Red Cross and the Tallapoosa Christian Crisis Center. Marlene was also a charter member of the Benjamin Russell High School Band Boosters, raising funds in support of the BRHS Band Program, as well as supporting and cheering on the Wildcats as a proud parent and grandparent. She was an accomplished gardener, seamstress, quilter, and an avid reader who especially loved a good mystery novel. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, James Lincoln "Pete" Bailey; sister Bobria Ann Baker Gilkes; and brothers Alfred Nix Baker and James Harrom Baker.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Bailey (Michael) of Opelika and Linda Goslin (Scott) of Alexander City; her grandchildren, Kristopher "Kris" Bailey of Opelika, AL, Katherine "Katie" Goslin Gordon (Joshua) of Millersville, MD, Daniel Goslin of Birmingham, AL, and Mallory Bailey Stein (Ricky) of Auburn, AL; and great-grandchildren Bailey Diann Stein and Richard “Tripp” Stein III.
Marlene lived a life rooted in faith, family, and quiet generosity, giving her heart fully to the people and places she loved. Her memory will remain a gift to the host of family members and friends left behind for years to come.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Dadeville Healthcare and SouthernCare Hospice for the compassionate care they gave Marlene.
