Maria Sharpe Lewis, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away surrounded by the warmth of her family. Maria's passion for nurturing extended beyond her family as she dedicated over 45 years to caring for hundreds of children at her beloved Re-Re's Daycare. Her natural affinity for guiding and supporting the growth of young minds earned her a treasured place in the hearts of many families in the community. The impact of her kindness and the safe, loving environment she created will resonate for generations.
Born to the late Burtis D. Perry and Helen Perry, Maria was a lifelong resident of New Site, Alabama. Her siblings, Margaret Allen and the late Sandra Dunaway, shared in the joys and challenges of life with her. Maria found her soulmate in Jimmy W. Lewis, Jr., and together they built a life full of love and laughter. Her children, Curtis (Pam) Sharpe, Bruce (Sheila) Sharpe, Chris (Kelly) Sharpe, and the late Keith Sharpe, were the pride of her life. She cherished her role as a mother and later as a grandmother and great-grandmother, showering her affection on Adam (Kristin) Sharpe, Tabatha Sharpe, Alex (June) Sharpe, Abby (Justin) Smith, Brandon (Allie) Sharpe, Bradley (Jackie) Sharpe, Drake Sharpe, D.J. Vinson, and Alexis Sharpe. Her stepfamily, including step-grandchild D.J. Lewis and stepson Blake Lewis, were embraced with the same warmth and love. The joy of her later years was compounded by the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Reed and Hank Sharpe, Conner, Karleigh, Brett Sharpe, Karson, Maverick Smith, and Caden Sharpe.
Her zest for life was evident in her personal interests. Maria was an avid bird watcher, finding peace and joy in the simple beauty of nature and her weekends at the cabin. Her dogs, Cujo and Shooter, were her loyal companions, and she delighted in their playful antics. But above all, Maria's greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren. Whether it was a holiday gathering, a casual Sunday dinner, or simply being together, those moments were the ones she treasured most.
Maria's loving and generous nature was matched by her spirited personality. She approached life with a sense of adventure and a belief in the goodness of people. Her warm smile and open heart made her a friend to many and a stranger to none. She had the unique ability to make each person feel special and loved, a gift that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Her family, a testament to the love and care she so freely gave, will carry on her legacy. Their lives, enriched by her unwavering support and unconditional love, will continue to reflect the values she held dear. Maria Sharpe Lewis will be remembered not only for the life she lived but for the love she gave so generously. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
As we bid farewell to Maria, we reflect on a life well-lived, a heart full of love, and a spirit that enriched the world. She has left us with a treasure trove of memories that will continue to inspire and comfort us. Maria's journey on earth may have ended, but her influence will continue to be felt, and her legacy of love and kindness will never fade.
