Margaret Ruth Melton's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Margaret Ruth Melton, 93, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Friday, July 26, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Dr. Albert Pike will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Melton passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Merry Wood Lodge. She was born on August 19, 1930 in Elmore County, Alabama to Arthur Aden Strickland and Flora Ozella Bentley Strickland. Mrs. Melton lived in the towns of Crestview, Tallahassee, Pensacola, and Milton, Florida for 34 years. She was an avid reader and loved to read the Holy Bible, newspapers, and books. She had a special love for Christian music. Mrs. Melton would often donate to charitable causes and people in need. She was an often visitor to local nursing homes and enjoyed working in her yard growing flowers and sharing them with others.
In her younger years she was an avid bowler in several bowling leagues and was Secretary and Treasurer of her local league. She won several trophies and even bowled in the National Tournament in New Orleans. Mrs. Melton enjoyed crocheting, going to the beach and Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile and Callaway Gardens in Georgia.
She is survived by her sisters, Julia Windham and Juanita (Herbert) Pugh; sister-in-law, Nita Strickland; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 58 years, Thomas Edwin Melton; sisters Wynelle Reddman and Clevis Edwards; brothers, James Edward Strickland, Dovard Strickland, and Thomas Strickland; and brother-in-law, James Hubert Windham.
