Loretta Lynn Kirk, known affectionately as Loretta to her friends and family, passed away peacefully in her hometown of Alexander City, AL, on July 31, 2025, at the age of 53. Born on October 28, 1971, in the same close-knit community, Loretta's life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family, the joy of giving, and the simple pleasures of shared laughter and love.
Loretta's academic pursuits led her to Troy State University in Montgomery, AL, where she not only expanded her knowledge but also cultivated lasting friendships and connections that she cherished throughout her life. Her career was as diverse as her interests, encompassing roles at Troy State University, a local bookstore, and Walmart. These positions allowed her to engage with the community in various capacities, providing her with the opportunity to touch the lives of many with her kindness and generosity.
A woman of eclectic interests, Loretta's passion for online auctions became a hallmark of her personality. Her loyal following was a testament to her welcoming spirit, as she greeted each session with her signature phrase, "Welcome In, Welcome In, Welcome In." This virtual gathering space became more than just a place for transactions; it was a community where friendships were forged, and Loretta's warmth was felt by all who participated.
Her love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. She shared an especially close bond with her parents, Bobby Ralph and Lizzie Mae Kirk, who preceded her in death. Loretta's playful spirit often manifested in her love for teasing her family members, a trait that brought laughter and lightness to every family gathering. Yet, beneath her humorous exterior was a woman who exemplified thoughtfulness and a giving nature, always placing the needs of others before her own.
Despite being known for her tendency to arrive fashionably late, Loretta's presence was one that filled the room with joy and love. Her generosity and thoughtfulness were her defining characteristics, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Loretta's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her beloved family. She is survived by her devoted son, Christopher (Mallory) Kirk, and her precious grandchildren, Cooper Kirk and Baylor Wilson. Her siblings, Bobby Dwayne (Jana) Kirk, Vera J. Kirk, Betty K Buxton, and William Timothy (Kay) Kirk, will hold her in their hearts forever. Her nephews and nieces, Calvin Buxton, Lindsey (Chris) Shurum, Tanya Paige (Robbie) Williams, Shelly Nicole (Colton) Looser, Jarrett (Savannah) Kirk, Billy (Tena) Henderson, Justin (Charlsie) Kirk, and great-nephew Collin Shurum, along with a host of other great-nieces and nephews, will all miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, James Buxton.
