Lofton passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Chapman Health Care. He was born on May 20, 1928 in Alexander City, Alabama to Hubert Ray and Flora Baker Dennis. Hardworking is an understatement when it comes to Lofton's work ethic and dedication. He worked for Avondale Mill for over 35 years. As an active member of Wayside Baptist Church, he also volunteered with 'Meals on Wheels' and enjoyed visiting shut-in members and those who were in the nursing home. Lofton had a servant's heart when it came to being there for anyone who needed it. His love for fellowship and health-conscious spirit made him a regular at the Russell Medical Center Exercise Program. In his spare time, Lofton enjoyed cutting the grass or hunting any animal that moved such as deer, dove, coon, etc. He was a man of faith who was full of foolishness with a straight-forward approach. At the end of the day, this "PawPaw," as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren, loved his family, and they loved him.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy (Randy) Waller; sons, Ronnie (Belinda) Ray, Mickey (Jenny) Ray; grandchildren, Ron (Michelle) Ray, Jeremy (Lora) Ray, Donna (Ross) Baker, Jason (Saylor) Neese, Mitch Ray, Candis Ray, Will (Jessica) Fuller, Blake (Jenna) Fuller, Karen (John) Alford, Kelly Wilson, Missy Moler (Jeff) Black; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, James Ray; sons-in-law, Ty Fuller, Donald Neese; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Rudine Sherrer Ray; daughters, Norma Faye Neese, Kristy Fuller; mother, Flora Baker Dennis; father, Hubert Ray; brother, Cecil Ray; sister, Lorene Strickland; stepfather, Woodie Dennis; and son-in-law, Randall Thornell.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the "Children's Fund" at Wayside Baptist Church in honor of Lofton.
The family would also like to give special thanks to Ivy Creek Hospice and Chapman Health Care for their love and compassion.
Radney Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Lofton Lesley Ray.
